John "Johnnie" Parsons (born 4 July 1918 in Los Angeles, died 8 September 1984 in Van Nuys) was an American racing driver who competed in and won the Indianapolis 500 while it was a Formula 1 world championship round. He won the 1950 Indianapolis 500, becoming the youngest driver to win a race, lead a lap and score fastest laps in the then-short history of Formula 1, these records being respectively broken by José Froilán González at the 1951 British Grand Prix, Jimmy Davies at the 1951 Indianapolis 500 and José Froilán González again at the 1952 Italian Grand Prix. He surpassed Juan Manuel Fangio in all records.

  • Drivers often drove for two teams at once in the Indy 500. In 1954 Parsons retired from the race in his main car, before relieving Art Cross. In 1955, Parsons was hired as relief driver for Spider Webb, who failed to qualify. In 1957, he failed to qualify his main car and was hired by Sumar/Chapman Root to replace Dick Rathmann, who had been mugged and couldn't start the race.

† Denotes shared drive with Art Cross, Sam Hanks, Andy Linden and Jimmy Davies after retiring in his own car.
